Short answers to common questions from both first-time users and experienced mIRC users.
General
Do I have to know mIRC commands?
No. ircWx-Conn is designed so a new user can connect, browse rooms, join/create rooms, whisper, customize the client and update it through menus and dialogs. Commands remain available for people who prefer them.
Where is the main menu?
Right-click the Status window. It contains Connection, Rooms, Appearance, Tools, Help and Advanced groups.
Why do room names sometimes contain %# and \b?
That is IRCWX wire format. \b represents a space. ircWx-Conn normally converts friendly room names automatically.
Is a whisper the same as /msg?
No. IRCWX whispers are room-scoped and use IRCWX-specific behavior. Use the nickname menu's Whisper (Private Message) command.
Settings & appearance
Where do I change colors?
Right-click Status → Appearance → Colors. Native mIRC channel/window and Nick Colors stay in mIRC; ircWx-Conn's custom DCX/Webchat/Action Logger surfaces have their own controls.
Why is the Webchat text hard to read on my dark/light background?
Enable Auto-adjust Webchat user colors for readability in the Colors dialog, or return the Webchat transcript to following the channel background.
Can I reset only my appearance?
Yes. Use the targeted default/reset controls in the appearance dialogs. Do not use Factory Reset just to undo a color experiment.
Add-ons
Does an add-on need a manifest?
No. A normal .mrc file under addons\ can be discovered as a script. addon.ini is optional metadata.
Can I still use Alt+R and normal /load?
Yes. ircWx-Conn keeps standard mIRC scripting behavior. The Add-on Manager is a convenience layer.
Will an update delete my third-party add-ons?
The addons\ tree is treated as user-owned rather than updater-owned. Factory Reset also preserves third-party add-on files and normal load state.
Updates & reset
What does Restore Previous Build do?
It restores the ircWx-Conn program files changed by the most recent update using the updater's local recovery copy. It is not a Windows restore point and does not restore all personal settings.
Will ircWx-Conn update mIRC itself?
No. The ircWx-Conn updater leaves mirc.exe alone. Change your mIRC version separately if you decide to do so.
What survives Factory Reset?
The installed ircWx-Conn build stays installed. Native mIRC preferences/personal lists and third-party add-on files/load state are preserved. ircWx-Conn-owned connection information, settings, logs, screenshots, caches and update recovery state are erased.
Support
What information should I include when reporting a problem?
Describe what you clicked, what you expected, what actually happened and the exact error text. Include the ircWx-Conn version/build from About or Updates. For connection problems, System Information can help. Remove passwords, email addresses or other private information from screenshots before posting them.
Should I turn Developer Mode on all the time?
No. Leave it off for normal use. Turn it on when a developer/support person specifically needs lower-level diagnostics.
