Hi,

I run a chat website started in 2006.

These days we use a customized IRCd server and our own webchat but for nostalgia I wanted to set up a PaperIRC server which we started out on (lol).

But I can't seem to find the last copy that was ever released so I was wondering does someone have a copy that they could put up?

I did find a copy, but seems it was the first ever version and all in French.

Thanks,

Alex

Sorry I have no information about PaperIRC. Maybe someone else can point you in the right direction. I found a few things on Google.. You can try that.

Thanks err0r.

I'm not sure what you found, but the ones that I found were on an old site by Paper himself but they were all the earlier versions and still in French.

Really I'm looking for Paper IRC 9 or similar, I remember there used to be this website WinZero that had them all but that seems dead now.

So, here's to hoping that someone has a copy ;-)

Thanks,

Alex

I would love to get a copy of all the paperirc versions to add to chains website. Only one i have left is hex server 2.1 lol

nothing wrong with officeirc :)

Paper was good 10 years ago until ppl learned it was very easy to crash it.

In my opinion its not worth running now days.

I still run a OCX chat server with Trivia Arena.

It is very modified with duel data base authentication.

Office IRC will give you the ocx chat looking like paper and more secure.

This does take a lot of coding but it works well.

Getting a paper server is just the start, you then have to code your site pages to authenticate and then there is profiles.

The list goes on... If you want to do it right!

Lots of people are against running the OCX chat now days but its still running on allot of sites and doing well.

Paper 8 was a good copy, I think I still have it some where as I ran it years ago. Again it was very crash able.

Hope this helps

lol ... I did do it right ;-) I have 3.5K chatters.

I want a copy for a "look what we were like 10 years ago" thing :-)

If you have a copy of Paper 8, care to upload ?

btw, looking at your site, I don't think you're in any place to give advice lol j\s

You should submit your site to our chat networks list.. ppl that visit here are always looking for good chat.

Design is always subjective. What one person likes another person hates. There is room on the net for all that wish to build. I respect anyone that takes the time to try and build something. Especially when it's to offer a service to others.

it's because it contains nhtml dll which usually gives antivirus headaches. but it's safe.

I've runned a few chats like ENTChat in the past and similar more, i've still got the files of the webpages which uses the server's msnregcookie's like it should.

The server thats with it is the latest ENT Server which is a 3mb zip file without mIRC, with exclusive features.

If there is any interest i would love to upload it.

Bless

i'm sure some would find it useful.

Did you try using that 9 version? I put a mIRC.exe in it but there's no dialogs on anything from what I can see?

Do you have a copy of 8? I remember PaperIRC being all orange with lots of dialogs etc.

It already has the application in there so no need to add mirc again.. it does have dialogs but it seems nothing was put in popups to make it easy to locate and open them.

working on getting a copy of 8 soon.. check back later please.

Thanks err0r, look forward to it :D

I agree if i were going to start a chat network paper irc wouldn't even be a consideration. Like alex said it is still nice to see it for the sake of nostalgia. Same way you felt it by looking back at old disks. Many of the downloads on tg especially the archived stuff isn't all that useful in some cases. But it's nice to see the stuff just because of the memories it brings back. It's hard if not impossible to find many of the files from those days. For the most part MSN Chat is forgotten history or else completely unknown to many of today's younger users. Part of tg's mission is to keep an archive of this files for those that wish to take a look back from time to time.

To anyone that has old files that are msn or community related feel free to submit them here. There is always someone out there that wants to take a look back once in awhile.

Thanks to d33jay for all those paper irc files.

I love these threads, they take me back!

In the very early days we used to run something very similar on Oasiz, it was a very gentle/easy introduction to chat server coding.

I think the best thing about it had to be making code edits "live" without needing to spend time re-compiling etc - bliss!
