because a user (i won't mention names) suggested that you could use the msn chat ocx legally on any server as it's freeware. The rest of us simply pointed out that was a false statement so that other users viewing this thread would not get the false impression that it was true.
Unlike some here I have no personal issue with other sites that wish to use the ocx. I'm not on a personal quest to right all wrongs on the net.
The reason we do not do alot of promotion for sites that use the ocx is because "IF" msn decides to go after these sites the users that will be displaced from yet another chat home will wonder why we suggested a chat that was illegal in the first place. Our goal has always been helping others and we can't suggest chats that could be shut down anyday. Alot of users "trust" what we offer and say and we try our best to ensure they can continue to trust us. Although NSM is pretty established, there are many that come and go at a drop of the hat, run by kiddies who think it's funny to harass their own chatters, or people who have no idea what they are doing. We would not feel comfortable advertising for chats unless we feel they are firstly legal, secondly run by a staff that cares about their chatters. NSM could very well be the best chat out there but because there is a chance MSN could shut it down I won't tell my users to chat there.
We are not attacking NSM or the work they have done.
