I was messing with the MSN Chat OCX in ResHacker, and noticed something I've never seen before...

String Table, 19

291, "You are trying to change your nickname too quickly, try again later."

292, "Nickname changes are not permitted at this time, try again later."

Changing nicknames through the OCX? :|

i think that was probably back when the 3.0 ocx was out, it might have been possible back then, but i'm sure that this has been restricted now.

Hmm....strange how its still in the string table

When you change your nickname on MSNChat I believe you have to wait 24hrs to do so again. If MSNChat's nickname changer is inaccessible then 292 is displayed.

As I never paid for MSNChat I don't know whether you can still change your nickname after registering it but it was possible before you had to subscribe.

Does anyone know the command?

on msn you have 2 options: msnregcookie or nick/user commands. if you use msnregcookie, it will give you your assigned nickname. if you use nick <nickname> and a user command, it will let you have whatever you want. you have to do the nick command when you first connect tho, and you can't do it again until you open a new connection. there's no changing your nickname when you're already connected no matter how you go about it.
