My university network (VPN connection) is blocking MSN CHAT PORTS,therefore i cannot connect to msn chat. although the IT people told me to use the SOCKS4 proxy and then i could connect to msn chat,but i still can't, although i used the proxy for everything else and it works, for instance limewire,torrent clients,msn messenger

yeh,,i got the same problem,i do really want to get back in my group and chat...but i can't.. am in the dorms..and i can't connect to msn chat, it pops out this network problem, am pretty sure that the ports are blocked, but i think if i use the proxy,i'd have to connect,but it doesnt work,its weird,,,am using bitcomet to download movies and obviously this should be blocked by the college's network,however am using the proxy to connect...so how come i cant connect to msn chat while the proxy "socks.ncl.ac.uk:1080" is setted on internet options...

 

anyone who has idea about this,please share it

u will prob find that the ports are blocked

 

ur colege will be n the Janet Network yeah?

ports are blocked...uni of newcastle

 

anyways, msn chat is not restricted, thats why proxy is avaiable,but i actually have no idea how to bypass the university network,,i mean its msn chat:S

 

actually,i talked to my ISS staff,they told msn chat is fine,but i need to set the proxy which i did,,and it didnt do anything

but am sure ur on janet and am pretty sure they block it up

sorry but if your uni has blocked it then we will NOT help you try get round it
