Greetings,

i'm new to chat and to scripting, i've read over the mirc help file in full and was hoping that someone could give me a few tips or pointers about where to begin with doing a script of my own and some basic scripting rules and ettiquet <spelling?> i hope to one day be posted for download on techgear but i don't know where to begin and would like whatever help that anyone can offer me. Thanks in advance

Lucian

Hey Lucian. The best way that most new scripters use is to download mIRC at: www.mirc.com. Then, go onto techgear, goto MSN/IRC DOWNLOADS, connections, then Vincula v4.9 (Edited by either kozical or err0r) the err0r one is probably the best edited. Once you've downloaded that create a file on ur desktop call it your script name eg "Lucian Script". Then, past the mIRC.exe in there and the Vincula files you just downloaded. Type /load -rs vincula.mrc. And then, do what most scripters do when they started off download some other peoples scripts and learn from how they've done it. I would download Dream, Kenobi, GuarDDog something to that nature. Study the code. I hope this helps smile.gif

Welcome aboard Techgear lucian.

I know once upon a time err0r (God basically on techgear) had a tutorial on how to make your own script. If there isnt one about (again huh.gif) then any questions you have - By all means jump on the forum here and ask away - see if you can baffle some of the better scripters then me lol..

Mr_S

Ive taught him the basics and hes read the mIRC.hlp file with appears to of helped him alot. Plus hes looking at other peoples coding so hopefully he will become as good as scripters such as err0r & Ozzy etc etc biggrin.gif

good man absorbx! lol.. now we watch and wait MWHAHAHAHAHAH lol

welcome to techgear...... lucian, iam not a scripter, but these guys in here are great scrpiters......and sure they will help you when ever they can.....just a welcome to the best site on the net! cheers.gif

That is why this forum was made. It was made for newcomers to scripting so that they could learn, as Ozzy, err0r, absorb, myself, and alot of other great scripters needed to. We all started somewhere. Don't be discuroaged or feel like you want to give up, scripting can be hard at times on some parts. Just take it day by day and you will get it down in no time. Dont rush the scripting process either.

Yeah i agree fusion, thats the main key in the bundle to wait patiently and don't give up no matter what mIRC throws at you because we've all been faced with a difficult problem and im sure we didn't give up?. Just keep referring to the help file or indeed into this forum and you will go along way.

Absorb X ur a good man thumbup.gif

you can always come in the group room and ask for help in there too http://groups.msn.com/TechGear007NET

My code does NOT have bugs. It just develops random features.

Thank you all for your replies and your help i'm grateful to every one of you i was wondering on average how long it took everyone to do up their best scripts especially ozzy from what i've seen his appear to have the most technologically advanced features.also i have noticed several spots on the help file that refer to something called dialogs is there an easy way to do these for a beginner?and what are the requirements for submission to techgear? once again thanks to all of you

lucian

you need to get dialog studio and read the help file in it.

Its on techgear >>HERE<<

My code does NOT have bugs. It just develops random features.

To whomever is able to help me,

I'm still working on my script I have graphics and an msn connection, credits, and i've downloaded a few addons from the techgear site for mirc addons, what i'm wanting to know is if someone can tell me how to get the popups to say whether or not protections are off or on ( sorry but I hate not knowing whether or not a gun is loaded and i don't think anyone else wants to deal with a script that goes off half thingyed either) just a brief bit of coding good for beginners would be much appreciated i'm also going through and over my credits step by step making sure that i have not forgotten anyone. I have a screenshot but i don't know how to submit it. if anyone knows how please contact me here on the forum. Thank you all so much in advance.

Lucian

Yeah if you yse groups you can use $group(#groupname) and that will say On or Off or you can use which is my favourite $replace($group(#groupname),On,Active,Off,Not Active))

which sounds better than on or off

to save room in your script files, and not have to have as many loaded, you can also use variables or even ini files to store your settings, such as, if you want a profanity kick running in a room, you can set a variable like %pkick. [ $+ [ $right($chan,-2) ] ] and that way you don't have to have a whole different on *:text:*:#: event in a #group in another file, you can just have it all in one event, and the profanity kick only activates IF (%pkick. [ $+ [ $right($chan,-2) ] ] != $null)

then for popups, you can put a single line,

.$iif(%pkick. [ $+ [ $right($chan,-2) ] ] != $null,$style(1)) $+ Profanity kick:{ if (%pkick. [ $+ [ $right($chan,-2) ] ] != $null) { unset %pkick. [ $+ [ $right($chan,-2) ] ] | echo -a * profanity kick off } | else { set %pkick. [ $+ [ $right($chan,-2) ] ] 1 | echo -a * profanity kick on } } which puts a check mark next to the option in popups if it's on, and no check mark if it's off, then clicking it turns it on or off.

*edit: another benefit of doing it this way is that it's more dynamic than using #groups and it allows you to have the option on in one room but off in other rooms.

..and that's that. sorry if i made it sound all complicated.. just a suggestion.

I was also curious as to how to do up a window for ppl that have been kicked and to keep track of the people that have kicked them as well as time day and kick message.I'm sorry if i've been asking a lot but i really want to know how to do this the right way.
