Hiya GTK and all,

Im in a few rooms and now & then need to be in them as a non-subscriber, i decided to connect to all using GD5a but found i couldnt connect to any. :notworking:

Can GD5a use non-sub nicks to connect?

Probably works for groups, dont know about paid chat. Cause it needs to prop the subscriber info.

Custom Computer

AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 5200+

Asus M2N-SLI MOB

2GB DDR2 @ 800mhz

160GB Hard Drive

NVidia GeForce 8400GS 256

I've encountered this problem on my webchat. I would go into rooms as an unsubscriber, I'd go to my script and everything would be subscribed. Maybe MSN's server moofing. o.O

I have tried GD5 as a non sub and didnt work as I use a non sub script from time to time in the room thought of a non sub GD5 protecting the room and see how it copes :taz:

It purposely doesn't allow that. It is how i coded the connection because it uses the passport to connect to the subscription server. That is why it wont allow this. So yea, anyways, if you have a subscription account, why not just use it? There is no advantage in using a non-sub account. And no, this will NEVER be a feature that i'll consider for GD5.

well said gate

My code does NOT have bugs. It just develops random features.

Hiya GTK,

Thanks for the reply and letting me know that GD will never be able to provide this degree of flexability. I use non-subs all the time as does probably every owner of a room where you dont have 2 or 3 paid accounts or people supporting you.

The fact that its delibrate is sad as it does limit my ability to use it effectively.

ST4 <wo0t>

yesa but it also limits idiots from using gd as a non sub, thus limiting there ability to use gd to abuse rooms

Im in Australia and have one paid account, i cannot make a room thru a script, for most Australians its just not possible from here, i have to do it through a browser and a paid account, NOW i have to get my bot in there, and it CANT be GD, because your worried about non-subs, flooders etc, which wouldnt be using GD anyway, i think the lose greatly outweighs potential abuse, imho.

ST4 loves Tazzie :D:taz::D

Actually, this is a very good addition to GD. The Gate Keeper is also in Australia. If you encounter this problem, just have make the room on webchat, and then have someone come in to keep it open untill you get your script in there. That should resolve it.

Hiya X-Fusion,

Thanks for the reply and i see what your saying, but i need someone else as you say, i can do it right now by myself using scripts that will allow me to use non-sub accounts, i was hoping to drop all of them and just use GD, sadly for me i cant because of this limitation. I am also owner in more that just one room, so you can imagine the fun i have when they all moof. :notworking:

Right, I understand ST4. If you have problems with that, I guess you will have to stick to your old way of doing things...even though it seems rather annoying. But, TGK did this for good reason. Current scripts that used connections had those flaws where they could connect to a chat without being subscribed, and then flood the chatroom and ruin it for other users. Remember, GD was made with users in mind. Not just the script user, but other chat users.

You can create rooms with GuarDDog still. I do it all the time, it automatically creates it in the US section. It isn't limited to being created in your country. So i don't see why you would need to use webchat all the time for it. I haven't gone to webchat since i help run a group when i was making GuarDDog v. 3.6 (about mid 2003). So i don't see why all these limitations are experienced when it comes to creating rooms because you can easy to do it with GD with 1 subscription account. Do it like i do, use 1 subscription account and chat through it as well. I do that all the time, it's funny stires up the room because they think your just a script. Then you start talking.... :P

GD5 is designed to stay in all your rooms as long as it possibly can. I personally sit in 8 rooms, each with their own type of Choke Chain Protection settings, so that they each have their own uniqueness. When you get moofed from all the rooms, it should automatically rejoin all the rooms for you, i know sometimes it's a bit bugged, but it should do it majority of the time, i'm still trying to pan out the bugs, but it isn't always working :P.

Because the connection used is designed for the MSN's payed system, i didn't feel the need to go through the process of setting up all the non-subscription stuff as well. As a script writer, i try to make chat the best place possible, and i do have to weigh up everything, from the ability to create rooms, to the use of non-subscription accounts in GD5. I'm sure if there is anything that a non-subscription account could do in GD5 that a subscription account couldn't, it would get me to change my mind about it, but for now, i think it is just a waste. So if you want it, you need to show some strong evidence that there would be a real great advantage to having a non-sub account allowed to join, and that it outdo a subscription account for options and that.

Hope i've cleared up the air a bit, or maybe i've stired it cause i'm asking more questions then answering :P

Hiya GTK,

As i did say, MOST Australians CANNOT create rooms on the US server, it happened very shortly after Oct 14th when MSN went pay to chat, ANYONE with a .com.au CANNOT use a bot to create a room, hence the majority of Australians need someone else to do it for them, or go thru what i have shared, and the task is made a lot more complex if the bot you have cant connect with non-subs, and i also do understand that if you have never had to do it, you wont have understanding of what im talking about, thats life.

ST4 :D:taz::D

but the thing is, i'm from australia, and i always create rooms with GD5. GD5 acts as though you are from the US, which is why it gets things like subscriberinfo and that. Have you tried creating a room with GD5? Tell me what comes up in the debug window. But as far as i'm aware, regardless of where you are, it should always create it in the US section because that is how i coded it.

the only advantage of having a non-sub account that I have experienced is that a non-sub with owner access cannot be dehosted, unless the access is removed, and the non-sub is kicked. Other than that non-subs with owner/host access can do whatever regular subscribers can do, except participate in chat, or whisper. I guess you have to weigh the good, and bad aspects. A for me, I think it wouldn't be worth the effort to make GD for non-subs as well seeing as how things are abused nowadays.

Hiya Warrior124,

Its good to hear from you, ive been out of the forums for a while but i always liked reading your posts and i agree with everything you say here except the last bit ;):P

Hiya GTK,

I selected create a room from the menu, i noticed the buffer for the room name is smaller than the buffer in a browser and i use all the characters for one room and would love to be able to use the max. possible, for all those !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

OK this is weird, when i first started using GD5 the first thing i did was try and create a room with it and i couldnt, ive tried a few times and never could, and today i can :S:S:S so i guess im eating some words and humble pie, with a touch of salt :$

Tho it still would be nice to connect as a non-sub and i still will have to with another script, this is the first for years that i could create a room with one, so Ummm if its not broken, dont fix it :D

and well done GTK (Y) thank you.

Hey ST4. Good to see you, too.

What I mean by abuse is that it makes it a little more easier for room takes, because non-subs can't be dehosted, and if you don't have a pretty good kicker (One which bans their gate, kicks, deletes their owner/host access, and changes the key) then you could find yourself out of the chatroom, and your chatroom taken. Well, this is the case for anyone, be it if they are subsscribers, or not. However, with subscribers you can dehost them at least.
