Beginner Questions

Never used a script before. I'm not sure what I'm doing.

Do I use mIRC to connect to MSN chat? I've downloaded both vincula4.9 and DCPublic but I don't know where to put the files or what I'm doing. Throw me a frickin crumb please.

hey there, if you have never used a script it's wise to download a pre-scripted script to use before anything, don't run before you can walk!.

I agree with Absorbx on this one. Try Guard Dog or Kenobi, just to get a feel for how things work.

If are truely set on making your own, then use DC connection.

Start up mIRC, go to the top tool bar and click tools. Go to where it says script editor and then load. Double click the DC connection, and then just add your info.

That should get you at least up and running. Though MSN us updating once again tonight, so good luck!

If your going to make one, I would actually recommend Vincula as there are more addons out right now that are suitable for it. If your going to download one, I would suggest GuardDog.

Now do I join msn chats through mIRC, do I launch the chats directly from my browser or can I do both?

in GuarDDog, it will ask you to add a passport. The passport you are adding should be one specifically used for GuarDDog. Meaning, not the one you normally chat with.

From there, depending on what you want to do, you can join chat after the cookies have been updated.

Along the top of mIRC, it has "Commands" select that, then select "DogCollar Connection [Main]", from there, you can view the msn room list, or join a previous room, or join a group room, and what not.

You should be able to find your way from there. I would recommend just playing with things in GD5, see what it can do, and that.

Everything seems to be going smoothly with GD5 and chat.

But what if I already used the passport I normally chat with? Should I change that immediately? Is it really not a good idea to use the same passport?

You can use the same passport, but not on the same channel. You also can't use the same nickname on the same channel as well.

In case you dont know, a channel is a room. So, if your on !!!myroom with one passport, you cant come back in it with that same passport. But, if your in !!!myroom with that passport and !!!yourroom with that passport, thats fine.

I would suggest creating a seperate account for GD. As some people who use scripts have script detectors that display your e-mail in the main dialog window or even echo it on thier main screen.

Just a suggestion for safe scripting.

You cant pick up someones email through MSN chat. Thats only when they do a whois, and its recommended you put fake stuff in the options dialog. For ex: I use [email protected] as my email.
