Webchat Broken

I don't know exactly when this happened, but as you can see in the picture below I have no webchat. In FireFox and IE both, it never prompts to download the control and it does not exist in downloaded program files.

Does anyone know the direct link for installing the ocx? I would appreciate it.

Try to uninstall and reinstall chat control.

Quick question here, did you dl a mIRC and let is pass beyong the 30 day trial? Or try and use a cracked version of mIRC? This is a fast way to get chat control unplugged.

I can't uninstall or install the ocx at all. It never gives that option. No I never used a cracker version of mIRC.

Anyone know the direct link for installation.

Close all IE Windows. Right click on IE, goto internet properties, "clear history", then under temporary files, "delete cookies" and "delete files" (a prompt will come up, tick "delete offline content"), then select "Settings", dialog willl come up, select "view objects", a list of files come up, right click "MSN Chat Control 4.5" and select "Remove".

After this, open IE, and navigate normally to a chat room, as in goto chat.msn.com, view the room list, and select the room. It should then prompt you to download the chat control.

This should do the job.

lol I know how to do that, been doing that for over 3-4 years now...

What I am saying, is I have nothing in my Downloaded Program Files, it never prompts me for the chat control in both IE and FireFox. Above method doesn't work... It should, as it always has... But for some strange reason it doesn't and I get the results in the above screenshot.

you need to reboot after removing the ocx

or it will think its still in

I don't know exactly what it is, but I've done everything... Used the link above to install the OCX, removed everything (even though it was already gone) and restarted, still nothing. In opera it prompts me to install the ocx, but dunno if it is supported.

do you have hijackthis software on your pc ? if so remove it , because most of the times it gives probs with the chat.

how about a reformat? That normally works

I recently formatted and then it quit working, so maybe another one, and hopefully it will work!

i'm having a similar problem..the OCX file isn't there..but it still connects =\

download adaware from lavasoft, it gets rid of stuff that may be causing those problems..

well...dunno if this helps

you can uninstall chatcontrol by:

1-close all your browsers

2-delete all temp files from internet options and try the manual deleting to coz some files somwhow escape the deleting from the internet options.

3-click on start

4-Run

5-copy and paste this:

regsvr32 /u "C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\MSNChat45.ocx" Enter

a window will open to tell ya that process was successfuly done

try joinin the chatrooms again and it should download again

if it didn't...there maybe a problem with port 6667 so you should contact your internet provider to make sure it is opened and runing
