Because when I'm talking to someone I like to put : after their nickname. Have you never seen anyone type like "Nickname: no" ?

Status window hiding really isn't a big deal. If you seriously want to hide it, make your own switchbar and add an if statement that asks if the window is the mIRC status window

The Biggest Fixes as i see are

6.2 has now full UTF-8 (Decode) Support Better than MSN Applet has

And SSL gpf(general Protection Fault) Bug Fixed

in 6.17 people may have seen that when updating Passport using Gate keeper's Passport updater for vincula through SSL method

some time mIRC Crashes in that method that is now fixed (Y)

And Toolbar is now Fully Editable (Y)

even though Khaleed did a good deal in fixing the bugs that were found in mIRC 6.1.7 .. he seemed to miss out fixing the "IRC FLOOD PROTECTION"

which was what made 6.1.7 a bad "new version" of mIRC since it seemed to queue after 20 lines ((sometimes 15)) .. and was too laggy...

i only ever moved from 6.1.6 because of the decoded nicklist .. but i'll stick to 6.1.7 till 6.2.1 comes out..and hopefully it will be "bug free" ..

....

as for the updater for vincula .. Sky made one that used GKSSP.dll or something of the sort and it never crashed for me since ...

....

i should remember to ask Sky if i can upload it here for Vincula fans that would like to try it ((editable for any connection that gets its info from "Variables"

hasn't been laggy for since the latest release.. previous release it was only a bit laggy till i did some option edits.

 

Khaled spend lots of time on the UTF-8 support that was added in the previous version. As you might know UTF-8 is a font encoding system that allows you to use fonts with strange, international characters. That of course helps a lot if you want to chat in your own language!

 

UTF-8 support has been greatly enhanced in this version of mIRC with the addition of font substitution/font linking. This allows mIRC to display all characters needed, regardless of the font you are using, assuming you have the required fonts on your system, somewhere. mIRC will try to match font sizes etc. To speed up the process Khaled has implemented his own caching routines to enable fast font/character referencing.

 

mIRC's default toolbar is now customizable through a /toolbar command. By popular demand also a treebar has been added. This lists network connections with channels, queries and other open windows, much like the switchbar. It behaves like the switchbar in many ways as well. You can expand and collapse trees, just like you would expect. Just like the toolbar the treebar can be repositioned to the top/bottom/left/right of the main mIRC window!

Note: modifying some of the default mIRC buttons, such as Connect,

Notify, etc. may not always work since they are managed by mIRC.

They can however be deleted.

 

118.Fixed /signal -n bug, was allowing $? dialog in server event.

119.Fixed /!.var conversion to /set -l, was not using the !. prefixes.

120.mIRC now stores a [success] section in servers.ini that lists

servers that were connected to successfully. When you later

connect to a server group, the success list is used to prioritize

server connection attempts. "Clear History" via the servers list

popup menu clears this list.

121.Fixed various multi-monitor right-click mouse button bugs.

122.Added /help and /winhelp support for .chm files.

123.Added aline/iline/sline/etc. -t switch, forces a re-wrap of all

lines in a window that have not yet been wrapped to the current

window size.

The public aren't told who the mIRC beta testers are.

As for the bug you've mentioned there, that's a winsock problem, it will happen to any client that uses winsock. Admittedly, it does seem to happen more with mIRC than others, but it's not a problem that can be completely overcome.

Stupid question, but is your mirc.ini read only? You're the first person I've seen to mention this problem so I'm guessing it's a problem at your end. If not then it must be a really obscure bug.
