Just to let anyone whos going to post replies know, if this turns into a MSN OCX thread, it WILL be closed, or your posts will be deleted. There are different alternatives then using the MSN OCX.
IRCd
OfficeIRC
yes I don't want msn ocx
I want something that mine not clone thank you ![]()
Chatcore is quite good, still buggy as hell ... but as a new type of "msn like" webchat its quite nice, it uses a similar sorta ajax setup as buzzenv2, tho i dont fully trust the setup ... all ppl that connect, do so via a chatcore ip (because you configure the client in a webpage that they control, they host the software not you) .. thus all having the same ipmask in and unreal IRCD for example, aswell as the fact that it says it supports ircx and ircd, yet doesnt support +b (which is the way to set bans in ircd) Would be really good if there was a source code of the chatcore client, which you could run yourself from your website! ![]()
If there is .. hit me up?! ![]()
Dont know but maybe this might help you Cheif, if not, I'll get more info for you!

I think im right in saying you use the client on your own server to creat the chat network.

saw that pyrc was mentioned in this thread, just wanted to add my 2 cents. At the current time pyrc will not be ready for commercial use til at least mid-year 2008 or even early 2009. We will be happy to show you the old version though which is incredibly stable, and shows much promise.
pyrcx - the next evolution in irc and ircx chat servers.

still hoping to find a coder well versed in python to help rebuild pyrcx from the ground up with linking

Would you mind posting a link (if you have one)

to the irc server using pyrc? or were you hoping to see the source?

i personally wouldn't mind getting in on the action. I've been working on python throughout 2007 when we were taught it at uni, and i have started my own project, but i think that i can expand my knowledge if i can offer help by writing snipplets or two here and there for python projects. But aye, i donno if i should even chase it up because i've only got a bit over a month before uni heads back.
I read all these posts about chat networks and cant help thinking chat is dead. Msn did a great job with chat and if it wasnt for them we wouldnt be here i guess. However, i look around the different chat sites, of which there are many, and dont see anything close to what msn did. Most servers have the same chatters on a regular basis but looking at the roomlists, most rooms are dead, or even it shows a room with 0 people in it, whats the point in that. I would agree Buzzen chat has tried very hard to emulate what msn had, but i think most people have moved on to new things. I dont agree with the room charging thing, however they may put it (i dont want this to turn into a debate about buzzen) im just making a point. I thought for a while about making a chat devoted to Scottish people but decided against it. Yes i have been involved with some different ircx servers, but its fair to say ( to get back to original point ) i dont see the point in a small scale chat server.

i do agree spooky as well. I never saw any of these "up and coming" servers be able to hold the place that MSN did. Though many showed a dislike for MSN, it was still one of the biggest and most used chat services around. With it's shutdown, it took the chat generation to it's end i believe. What is left is merely the smoldering heap at the end. Ohh well, life goes on...
Its ironic that many hated msn chat while they all use their chat ocx lol
