I'll be getting my Windows 7 Premium free of charge, plus I received an email asking me to sign up to host a party for the release of Windows 7. If selected they will be sending me out a party pack, plus a free version of Windows 7 Ultimate.

For the most part in terms of SKU's Windows 7 has gone back to similar principles of windows xp at retail point. Windows 7 pro is for enthusiasts, IT pros, small business etc home premium is your defacto necessary for home and common usage. starter and enterprise have separate purposes and will not be in retail channels besides OEM and hardware. Ultimate is really unnecessary one which really similar to vista has combined package of really enterprise and professional in one.

I'll personally probably be going the Technet subscription path soon with discount to get it along with everything else

I also got that Host the party thing to my email, Although i doubt i will, Because ill have to get people round and take pictures and videos and upload i guess?

yeah I got the email too lol but I don't think I have enough time in one day to host a launch party haha

Limited Editions ultimate with Steve Ballmer's autograph on the box is what the chosen party hosts get, and that's the only eye candy, aside from the word "FREE!"

I'm still inquisitive about what's going to be the particular difference between the signature edition and the retail version? Other than a signature on the box, anything else that sets itself apart? From what I've gathered, it's no different from the retail one, except the only catch is that party hosts get it for free is all.

If you ever get the chance of installing the signature edition when the time is right, please post your findings, Warrior.

I don't think there are any differences at all. I'll post whenever I get any info, though.

The program your talking about gives people who buy a PC with Vista Home Premium, Business or Ultimate a "free" upgrade to their respectible couterparts: Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate once the new operating system ships.

People who buy an "eligible" PC between June 26, 2009 and Jan. 31, 2010 qualify for the upgrade.

Although almost every brand of computer makers are chargeing for the upgrade, only 10-15 bucks, but rediculous none-the-less. And more than likely, it'll be like the upgrade process between XP and Vista. A month after the release date of 7, you'll get your copy. But hey, Windows 7 looked promiseing, maybe Microsoft has actually started doing something right.

Yes, when you buy a new pc, or laptop with Vista installed you get a free version of Windows 7. It seems they really have done alot better with this new OS than previous editions.

The Windows 7 upgrade isn't entirely free; although they have to give you Windows 7 for free if you send them back the Win7 upgrade voucher, the companies are squeezing every possible penny out of you from the P&P, which they are allowed to charge for. HP, for example, are charging their customers £22 for "Shipping and handling" charges, even though the OS itself is free. It's better than the retail (or even the OEM) price of Windows 7 but they really are taking the P.
