Hey All,

I'm not that familiar with the terminology...i.e. finger, cctp?, etc.

My question is: I'm in MSN subscription room (not group), should I leave these settings in the bot to default? Also, could someone explain these settings or give me a place to go to read what they mean?

Thank you in advance for your help....

Ransomed

P.S.... Also when I load the bot each time, I get the MIRC registration log-on telling me how many days I have left to register it. Do I need to register Mirc? I didn't on the earlier versions. Thanks again.

CTCP stands for Client-To-Client-Protocol which is a special type of communication between IRC Clients. By creating CTCP events, you can make your mIRC react to commands or requests from other users.

Figer, Version, Time, Vincula and DTAE are all CTCP events. I'll break them down...

Finger - The finger event allows you to finger a person's address to find out more information about them.

If a user has a personal email/machine address, this will only work if they are running a finger server. Most other addresses eg. school, government, etc. can usually be fingered sucessfully, though they will not necessarily give you any useful information. For some users this can be a way of checking if they have mail. You can find out more about this in mIRC's help file.

So, basically, it's like a mini profile. The reply is customizable via the options dialog in mIRC but in the case of GuardDog, it's customizable in the main dialog as well.

Version - The version event allows you to see which version of mIRC they are running. This can also be customized by default but mIRC tends to leave in his credits and the version you are running.

Presumably, the one built-in to GuardDog masks the Version reply completely.

Time - This works the same as MSNChat's "Local Time" feature. No prizes for guessing what that's for.

Vincula - This is a built-in CTCP for Vincula. CTCP events can be created by a user and, in this case, eXonyte (Vincula's creator) made a Vincula event. This basically tells someone what version of Vincula you're running, much like mIRC's built-in Version.

DTAE - If memory serves, this was a CTCP event created for a program called IRC Dominator. The vast majority of the time, it's not used; it's a very uncommon CTCP event. I'm not sure why TGK included it...

Hope this helps smile.gif

You don't have to register mIRC but bear in mind Khaled's going out of his way all of the time just to provide an IRC client.
